19.4. - 5.7. 2015, Vernissage 18.4. 2015 at 5pm

The exhibition presents the photographic work of the famous Czech playwright, writer, journalist and aesthetic Karel Čapek. He recorded images not only of the puppy Dášenka for the successful book for children but also of cats, plants and gardens; pictures from trips abroad and portraits of personalities of his time, among them T.G. Masaryk, with whom he enjoyed a close friendship.

The exhibition commemorates the 125th anniversary of Čapek´s birth and considering the treatment of the issue of war by Čapek writer and playwright, also recalls the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. It also reminds us of Karel Čapek and his brother Josef's relationship with Jindřichův Hradec and the local region. In 1923 Čapek finished his novel Krakatit in the Rulfov restaurant near Jindřichův Hradec, designed by Josef Zítek, architect of the National Theatre.

We would like to thank the following for loans to the exhibition:

The Municipal House in Prague, Museum of Karel Čapek in Stará Huť, Museum of Jindřichův Hradec, City Library of Jindřichův Hradec, the leading Czech historian of photography Pavel Scheufler and other private lenders.

We also recommend that visitors view the Karel Čapek exhibition which can be seen from 15.4. to 26.7. 2015 in the National Technical Museum in Prague.
