Africa – Monuments, Animals, People

12 August – 30 September 2017, Vernissage 11 August 2017 at 5pm

This exhibition project of the Museum presents Africa in three thematic circles which include ancient monuments, wild African animals and the inhabitants of the African continent.

The images of ancient monuments, accompanied by scenes of nature and people, were photographed by the egyptologist doc. Mgr. Jaromír Krejčí, Ph.D., of the Czech Institute of Egyptology. Elephants, lions, hyenas, antelopes, giraffes and other members of African fauna which form another theme, were captured by the architect and traveller Arch.Milan Fiala. Photographs of people were taken by the author of the concept of this exhibition, the lawyer JUDr. Vlastimil Sítař. His collection, consisting of portraits and other images that capture not only the merchants of various goods in marketplaces, give an insight into the everyday life of the local people.

The photos – which can also be seen on a slide show – are complemented by authentic three-dimensional objects from Africa, including masks and sculptures that were provided by the traveller and collector Karel Pupík. Books and pictorial publications about the ancient Egyptian monuments are also on display.

The exhibition is suitable for all age groups of visitors.
